One World Week

Recently, I was lucky enough to encounter the opportunity to photograph some of the events for an event being held by CUSU for One World Week, which is 'a celebration of multiculturalism' held on campus of Coventry University. It was a really good event from what I experienced, I photographed at the Fashion Show and the live music, although I had been planning to also shoot at the dance event and the food festival, but my studies got in the way.
The fashion show was a long haul, my gift of being patient, (which is the type of gift one usually thinks of as useless and perplexing), came in very handy, as I had to be there from quite early to get shots of hair and make up being done on the models until the end of the show, which went on until very late, and when they did each walk I found that the place to get the best shots was by crouching down at the end of the walk. Good job I have been doing a lot of yoga recently, which I recommend to any photographer!
This shoot was a great chance for me to try out my new lenses. I recently bought a bundle of Vivitar lenses, which came with oh-so many goodies. For this shoot I took one of my macro lenses and my wide angle lens, which I think were both were good decisions, and certainly gave my shots some style. The macro lenses came in especially handy as there was a stall selling clothing and accessories which had been made by students, so I got some pretty nice close ups here.

One thing that I wish I had spent more time over before the shoot was in researching how to get better, in focus shots when the subject may be moving, as some of the models didn't stop for very long at the end of the catwalk, and the lighting at times was actually quite dim. All in all I feel that I got some really nice shots here, and have had some nice compliments on my work.

 For the live music event, I went along with more of a casual night in mind, so I didn't bring any of my lenses with me, but being me, I ended up in the thrall of it anyway, as I was there with friends who were filming it anyway. Despite not planning to take so many shots I am still wading my way through the edit; here are a few of my favourites;

Work For Source Media

I have recently been taken on as the key photographer for Source Media, which is a great opportunity and already has been a fun,  fulfilling experience which has strengthened my work and motivation. My first job was to photograph the Fresher's Fair at Coventry University which went well, the aim was to make it look busy, exiting and to capture everyone having a good time and getting their freebies. This was a useful experience for me to build on communicating with strangers to take their photo.
My second job was at the International Civic Reception Event, on Wednesday 10th October, which the Lord Mayor was a guest speaker at. This was a great experience as I have never had to photograph so many people before. The aim was to take as many photos as possible and to make sure there were photos of the guest speakers. I really enjoyed this work as it was exciting, there was a great atmosphere,  canapes, champagne (for those that like it), the hall was decorated very well, I met a lot of people and made new friends, there was also live music and a film. I feel like I did really well to capture the colour and excitement of the evening. Everyone was very eager to get their photo taking with the Mayor or in groups with friends so I was kept busy all evening. I edited the batch of photos straight after and have had a lot of positive feedback and praise for the photos that I took for that job.

The next job I took for Source was at the Faktory Night Club, where there was a Welcome Party being held for Bulgarian students and friends. This was on Friday 26th October, and started at 10PM, and I was told that I didn't have to stay for the whole night, but ended up staying until almost 1AM as it was good fun both for work and a night out.
I'm pretty happy with how the photographs turned out, both the originals and the edits, but I wish I had  taken more. The reason that I didn't take as many as I would have liked is because around a lot of the premises it was very darkly lit, which is something I need to practice with more, as it makes getting the photographs into perfect focus very difficult. I used a flash for some and I took some without, as I like the colours and ambiance that the club had.

Work For Clients So Far...

Photography for short film, Violet
Thursday 8th March 2012- Friday 9th March 2012

A film that I worked on during my second year of university, called Violet, which I co-wrote with the director, needed photography work doing for the DVD cover, shots for the actors to use, also for us to use as evidence of our work, as it is always good to photograph during the shoot for a film.
As the art director, I grabbed the opportunity to take the photos we needed, and was very pleased with the results, I've been given quite a bit of praise for them considering how modest a shoot it was, trying to get enough time with the actors between their scenes to direct them on how to pose for the camera and the feelings that I wanted to come across. I also made sure I took a lot of shots while the cameras were rolling, both of cast and crew, these also turned out very nicely.

Photography for musical rendition of, Theseus and the Minotaur

As well as helping to film the final year performance put on by a band of students, of their composition rendition of the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, I also was the key photographer. I enjoyed this as it was great to experience the music that intimately, having to get up close to the performers and equipment during practice and the actual thing without getting in the way of the audience or distracting anyone was a good challenge that I carried out accordingly.
Again, despite this being a small and modest shoot, I received a lot of praise for the work I did which was really nice, as the best bit was giving the photos to the performers as a memory of the performance that they did so well in.

Photography for Motion House, 'Ship Build'
Friday 11th May 2012

As part of the celebrations for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Motion House dance troupe had decided to do their performance on a ship built from cargo boxes, steel frame work and wooden panels. It was put together in a warehouse at the NEC where I went in to photograph the ship's build, as was part of a team also filming a time lapse of the build for Motion House.

About Elouise Malin Photography

I am a Midlands based photographer; I will photograph almost anything for clients as I don't like to stick to just one niche or market, but to cover many fields for many clients. I also do some work with a colleague creating videos for clients, (we have a website under construction so if you have any questions or would like to hire us to film anything for you email me at creeper_root@hotmail.co.uk same address as if you would like to hire me as a photographer). If you would like to view a selection of my photographs click on the 'Flickr' link, and to see a selection of my films click the link to youtube both seen on the list of links on the right.
So far I have photographed for a variety of clients, including stills and photo shoot for short film, 'Violet' (which I was also art director/ director of photography), Motion House (dance company), and for a band performance of 'Theseus and the Minotaur'. I've had my photography exhibited in Gaia Art Gallery, and went on an adult's night class course in photography aged 15 when I also worked as a photography technician at another college.
In terms of my work in film, one of the documentaries that I directed was shown at London Screentest Festival in 2011, which is IMDb recognised so I have a profile on there.
